Then there was lightning. Fudge. Okay so maybe he was in danger. If it started to pour down, he wasn?t going to make it to the building he saw in the distance. He drove and drove and drove until he finally skidded into the building and nearly toppled over with his bike. Not a moment later, it started pouring.
?Phew! Dodged a bullet there,? Tristan smiled and opened his jacket to let a young little Fennec Fox slide out.
The little fur ball shook off and stretched. The little thing looked up with its great big eyes and wagged its fluffy tail. It squeaked as it started to explore the area around her. Her ears were perked up to their full height and her tail curled behind her. She sneezed a few times when the dust tickled her nose.
?Don?t go too far, Arti. Don?t know what else could be in here,? Tristan warned the little thing and pulled off his goggles and set his backpack down.
He patted himself down then to make sure he had his weapons. Dagger in his boot? Check. Two daggers on his belt? Check. Gun in its holster? Check. Ammo in his bag? Check. Tristan raked a hand through his tousled blond hair and scanned the area with his blue gray eyes. The area looked safe enough. There were a lot of nooks and crannies to hide in though. And it was quiet. He always hated the quiet and being all alone. He thought he wasn?t going to last long. Then he found little Arti. Sure she was just an animal, but he talked to her and it kept him sane. She was better than another human that could easily stab him in the back or sell him off to save their own ass.
Tristan sighed and looked through his bag until he found his canteen of water. He took a few gulps to sate most of his thirst before he replaced it. He had to drink sparingly. He only had a little water left. Maybe he?d find some water in here somewhere. ?Arti,? he called softly and snapped his fingers and picked up his bag again. The little fox squeaked before it hurried after him as they both explored the inner workings of the building they had found. ?Hm. I wonder what building this was before the new age?? he murmured to the fox. There were a lot of broken down bones and stands. Was it a museum perhaps? It was big enough and some displays were still intact. ?And Mama thought I?d never step foot in a museum,? he grinned a little melancholy. ?Times to gets our education on,? he laughed. He caressed some of the displays.
He wondered if he was going to end up part of the collection. Where would the world be in a few years? Would the acid rain ever stop? The good and safe buildings were few and hard to come by lately. Some of them were taken up by gangs now. Since he was solo, that put him in quite a pickle. Most gangs took whatever solo travelers had and left them out to burn. He still had the burns and other scars on his body from the last encounter he had with other ?human beings?. More like bastards. Then he heard it.
Running water.
?Water!? he gasped and hurried towards the sound. He skidded to a halt in front of a mini contained waterfall. The waterfall was trickling. The mechanics were starting to fail, but it was water! He took a rock and tossed it in. The rock didn?t burn. Alex would have shouted and crowed his luck, but he still wasn?t sure if there was anyone else here. He sat down and pulled out his lighter after he gathered some wood and other leaves that were flammable in a contained area beside the water and started up a fire. He took out his bottle and filled it with the water and started to heat it. ?Looks like we might have to camp out here for a little while and make use of this little gift,? he smiled to Arti. The thing gave a tiny bark.
Tristan pulled out some meat and gave it to the fox before he started to eat his own meal. Once he was sated and the water had boiled, he dimmed the fire. He didn?t want it to get out of control after all, and he didn?t want a beckon to anyone else around him. It was already a little risky having it in the first place. He set the bag down and squished it a little before he leaned back and rested his head on it. Arti was quick to curl up at his side.
?Good night, Arti,? he whispered and stared up at the ceiling. He was tired, but he couldn?t sleep. He had a hard time sleeping. He was always too wired and too scared to go to sleep, least he wake up tied up or something. He kind of wished he did have a partner that could watch his back. Little Arti could only do so much. At least she?d warn him if someone approached. Well he hoped so anyway.
